Hong Kong chief tipped for key FSA role
Friday 7 January 2011 - by Nicola York
The outgoing chief executive of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission is in the running to head up the UK's Consumer Protection and Markets Authority, according to reports.
Martin Wheatley who has headed up the HK SEC since 2006 is due to leave his post in June and has emerged as a hot candidate to head up the new CPMA - a spin off of the Financial Services Authority's consumer division which is happening under the coalition Government's plans to overhaul the financial architecture.
Others rumoured to be in the running for the post include FSA director of enforcement Margaret Cole and the Office of Fair Trading head John Fingleton.
A decision is expected in the next month with Cole seen as the most likely candidate.
